Do I need to take supplements?
YES! Supplements are used to enhance or fill in the gap of vital vitamins and minerals our bodies needs.
Even if you are eating a whole food, organic diet you may still be deficient in some of these nutrients. Why? Unfortunately, our food sources are lacking in many of the vital vitamins and minerals our bodies need to operate optimally. These deficiencies have occurred because of poor soil quality due to over-farming or harmful pesticides. Following certain dietary guidelines can also contribute to deficiencies. Add to that lifestyle factors, age, gender, past medical history, and activity level and our bodies can begin to feel the effects of not being properly fueled.
Supplements include vitamins, minerals, herbals and botanicals, amino acids, enzymes. Your diet must consist of 13 vitamins and 15 minerals in varying amounts to fuel your body. Select supplements that are whole food-based when possible instead of synthetic. Avoid additives like binders, fillers, artificial colors or flavorings. Below you will find a few recommendations based on common needs. You can shop for these supplements by creating a free account with Fullscript. With supplementation, more does not always mean better. Review the recommended dosages and make adjustments based on your needs. Most supplements should be taken with food to allow proper absorption and decrease nausea. Some supplements require multiple dosages at different times of the day as the body absorbs the nutrients better in smaller doses. Read the instructions when starting a new supplement.
